Armed Services Ymca Annual Essay Contests

GEICO Military agrees to sponsor contest for 2017

Through another generous donation from GEICO, the annual Armed Services YMCA Art & Essay Contest will again allow children to express themselves through the written word and art in 2017.

The annual contest remind us of unique challenges faced by the sons and daughter of those who wear the cloth of our Nation. The unseen sacrifices the families endure are often forgotten. This contest provides a voice to the military children who live with the men and women sacrificing for our country. The themes for this year's entries have changed. All entries for the art contest should depict the theme, “My Military Family,” while the essay contest now has two themes: "How I Overcame the Challenges of Being a Military Child," or "How the Armed Services YMCA helped me."

The contest is officially launched every November and is open to all eligible children of U.S. active duty or retired service members. Winner artwork is displayed around the country at Armed Services YMCA branch and affiliate locations, as well as military bases worldwide during Military Family Month each November. The winning essays will be presented on the ASYMCA website.

The Art and Essay contest winners will be displayed at the 2017 Angels of the Battlefield Awards Gala again this year. (as seen below)

Winners receive special Apple brand product prize to help military children create and express themselves.

The winning artwork from 2016 is shown here in this Military Family Month poster.

The submission window for entries for 2017 is closed. The new round of winners should be announced in April. The rules for submission, deadlines and other information for this year's contest will be made availalble in early November.

You can sign up here, to receive updates and deadline information via email.

Thanks again to our sponsor: GEICO.

We are proud to be recognized by:

For generations, brave Americans have stepped forward and answered our country's call to serve in our Armed Forces. With honor and distinction, our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen fight to defend the principles upon which our Republic was founded so that we might live in a freer and more prosperous world. Behind these courageous Americans stand spouses, children, and parents who give up precious time with their loved ones, bearing the burden of long deployments and difficult moves, and oftentimes putting their careers on hold. During Military Family Month, we salute the families of those who proudly are a part of our Nation's unbroken chain of patriots for their unwavering devotion, and we renew our sacred vow to uphold our promise to our troops, our veterans, and their families.
